GW1 review the underperformers

As promised I will now take a quick look at who should have scored more points and have the potential to do so, this may unveil some hidden gems or differentials. Or just big guns who have been not getting enough attention.

I will use the same method as I did in the last article to rate performances, so check it out if something remains unclear.

To start off this post I will add 2 players who may seem to have underperformed but really did not. Despite being impressive goalscorers in their pre Premierleague career, they have been horrible during there time in the PL. This could be down to their teammates being unable to feed them with quality passes, or being able to turn their key passes into assists. But largely it is down to the quality of their final touch, as both players are impressive on the ball, but fail to insert that quality in to their finale touch of the ball.

!I will post this as a warning, that you cannot find gems by purely looking at stats, and watching the games and assessing their pass and shot quality is also helpful.!

Perennial underperformers

Adel Taarabt:

  • GW1: Shots taken:8 Goals scored:0
  • GW1: Key passes made:5 Assists made:0
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 3.3 shots per game, 44 shots per goal
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion: 2.2  key passes per game 19.8  key passes per assist
I actually think that he will do better than last season and will be investing in him when fixtures improve for QPR, but not as good as the potential his stats show us.

Luiz Suarez:
  • GW1: Shots taken:8 Goals scored:0
  • GW1: Key passes made:2 Assists made:0
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 4.1 shots per game, 11.636 shots per goal
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion: 2.1  key passes per game 21.7  key passes per assist
Suarez is a very good player in real life and is more likely to do better than Taarabt, but he is also 3.5mil more expensive and takes up one of the valuable striker spots. So I find it hard to understand why people are investing in him unless the fixtures get too good do ignore.

GW1 under-performers

David Silva:
  • GW1: Shots taken:4 Goals scored:0(also a missed penalty)
  • GW1: Key passes made:3 Assists made:0
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 2.4 shots per game, 14.5 shots per goal
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion: 2.9  key passes per game 6.96  key passes per assist
Nothing extreme here, but the missed penalty caused a panic for some of the owners as the negative NTI suggested.

Santiago Carzola:
  • GW1: Shots taken:4 Goals scored:0
  • GW1: Key passes made:7 Assists made:0
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 2.4 shots per game, 9.888 shots per goal
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion: 2.9  key passes per game 16.72  key passes per assist
Carzola earned raving reviews from most people who watched the game, I personally did not and looking at his last years statistics I will remain cautious until the fixtures improve for Arsenal. But Spanish creative midfielders tend to do well in the PL especially with assisting, we can look at Silva with 15 and Mata with 16 last season as an example. Carzola is also a better shooter of the ball than both of these players, but most of his goals last season came from outside the box so how much he will score with his long range efforts remain to be seen. But if he continues with his current volume of key passes and shots than points are sure to follow and I am keeping him closely in my watchlist.

On the bubble:

Kagawa(4 key passes 0shots)
There were plenty of moments where Kagawa was in the box and just a good pass away from a goal, all of his passes were also very good and he was unlucky not to get at least 1 assist.

Ji Sung Park( 6 key passes)
Ji can also score goals and if he continues to put up similar key pass numbers than assists are bound to follow also.

Siggurdson(3 shots, 3 key passes)
Very unlucky not to score or assist, was involved in most things Tottenham did and also took charge of many set pieces. The situation with VDV still needs to be monitored, so I am not suggesting you buy him just yet. But if he continues in the same role than points will come sooner rather than later.

Rooney and RVP
Stats dont suggest much, but my gut is telling me that both of these players will score near 10 points in the following gameweek and I would suggest putting your armbands on them.

Good luck with GW2, hopefully my reviews were a help!
