GW1 review the over-performers

My plan is to look at GW1 and see who over performed and who underperformed. Looking at efficiency and general luck involved in FPL points scored. This should help to decide which bandwagons are worth riding and which are not. I will use last years statistics as a viewpoint for normal conversion rate on shots and key passes, with some exceptions.

Lets start with the over-performers...

Ivanovic:
This man will not score 24 points in a game week again. So there is no need to jump on his bandwagon now. A. Cole could do just as well going forward. And as Chelsea are looking like they will sign a new RB soon Ivanovic may soon find himself under threat of rotation.

  • GW1: Shots taken:3 Goals scored:2
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 0.8 shots per game, 7.33shots per goal
Collins:
9 points from a West Ham defender wont be a regular incident, so there is no point paying the extra 1 million for Collins over Demel.

Michu:
This man is a great player and I own him as well, but 2 goals and an assist wont happen every week. So there is no reason why you must bring him in unless you have a free transfer to spare. Cant see him going crazy 2 weeks in a row.

  • GW1: Shots taken:4 Goals scored:2
  • GW1: Key passes made:2 Assists made:1
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 2.4 shots per game, 5.866 shots per goal
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion: 1.1  key passes per game 13.5666  key passes per assist

Dyer:
Dyer is also a good player and very cheap so I don't see why one cant jump on him, but don't expect him to score with all his shots like he did this week, so don't spend 4 points on him or make him your captain. The new coach of Swansea uses hes wingers differently and Dyers potential certainly has increased, but I am not getting too exited.

  • GW1 Shots taken:2 Goals scored:2
  • GW1: 0 key passes
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 1.3 shots per game, 8.8 shots per goal

Lampard:
The man is still a good fantasy player, and this was not much of an over performance as he usually creates more scoring opportunities. But the low shot and key pass numbers are worrying and he is hardly to get opportunities to score from the spot in every game which is exactly what happened in this double game week.

  • GW1 Shots taken:3 Goals scored:2
  • GW1: 1 key pass
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 2.2 shots per game, 5.9 shots per goal
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion:1.8  key passes per game 10.8  key passes per assist

Duff:
I have nothing against the man, he is just not worth a spot on any fantasy team roster.
  • GW1 Shots taken:2 Goals scored:1
  • GW1 Key passes made:2 Assists made:1
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 1.5shots per game, 21 shots per goal( this is a bit extreme and it seems that he had a very bad last season, but I dont see a big improvement coming up)
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion: 1.1 key passes per game 10.266  key passes per assist
Petric:
This man is in a new team and in a new league, so this could improve his performance from his Bundesleague days. So I will use his stats from 20010/11 season which was the best for him at least conversion rate wise for both goals and assists. In his last season for Hamburg he only scored 7 goals with 70 shots and 1 assist all that in 26 games.

  • GW1 Shots taken:3 Goals scored:2
  • GW1 Key passes made:1 Assists made:1
  • Normal rate of shot conversion: 2.9 shots per game, 5.727 shots per goal
  • Normal rate of key pass conversion: 0.6 key passes per game, 4,4 key passes per assist

            Defoe                                        Dzeko

GW1: Shots taken:7 Goals scored:1   Shots taken:3 Goals scored:1

Dzeko and Defoe are both good players, and did not do anything too out of the ordinary but  both of them wont get enough playing time to be worth starting in fantasy teams.

Worth a mention:

Here I would like to add the players who slightly over performed, but have a low enough price that I don't mind seeing them in teams: Guthrie,Kacanikilic. Than there is the case with Hazard, who over performed assist wise, but failed to score a goal which is something that I would expect him to do more often. I am not expecting similar point output to continue, but currently he seems like the best value in the Chelsea midfield so I strongly suggest getting him in your teams for GW4.

Now my opinion on which one of the over-performers bandwagon is worth riding?

I actually don't think any of the over-performers is a must have. But Michu as the only 100% nailed on Swansea midfielder is certainly close to that, but there is no harm in getting Dyer or Graham instead of him. Hazard is also one of the players I am looking to get in my team, but not before GW4 as Chelsea have a blank on GW3.

Under-performers post will follow soon, that can also be used as a pre-preview for GW2
